Alberta takes 2-0 win over Cougars in Edmonton

Duxbury, Poulin score to help Pandas jump into third place in Prairie Division

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by the Alberta Pandas on Sunday afternoon at Foote Field in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alberta scored in the sixth minute off of a corner kick delivered from the right by Tara Simonot. Emily Duxbury got her head on it in the box, scoring her third goal of the season and giving the Pandas an early 1-0 lead.
  • Duxbury's goal was the only scoring of the first half. Alberta had a 14-6 edge in shots attempted and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes.
  • The Pandas scored a backbreaker in the 59th minute. Wanda Czebruszuk fed a ball through to Adrienne Poulin, who knocked it into the far corner to extend Alberta's lead to two.

NOTES
  • Alberta finished with a 22-13 edge in shot attempts and had 11 shots on goal to Regina's 6.
  • Autumn Wynn had a six-save shutout for Alberta, while Kareena Andersen made nine saves for the Cougars.
  • Peyton Enns finished with six shot attempts and three shots on net for Regina.
  • Regina falls to 3-5-0 with the loss and are now chasing Saskatchewan (4-2-2) for the fourth and final Prairie Division playoff berth after Alberta moved past the Huskies into third place.

NEXT UP
The Cougars are back at home next weekend. They'll host Lethbridge on Saturday and Calgary on Sunday with both matches set for a noon kickoff at the U of R Field.
