Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Huskies take Saturday win over Cougars

Shindle, McNutt score for Regina in setback

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team fell 7-2 to Saskatchewan on Saturday night in a U-Prairie Challenge battle at Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars enjoyed the run of play in the opening period, highlighted by a Kolton Shindle goal off a slick no-look pass from behind the net by Carter Belitski which served as the only goal of the first.
  • Saskatchewan erupted for five goals in the middle stanza. The Huskies got goals from Ty Prefontaine and Vince Loschiavo in a span of 74 seconds early in the second, then Loschiavo scored again four minutes later to extend Saskatchewan's lead to 3-1.
  • Regina drew closer on Adam McNutt's first U SPORTS goal. The rookie defenceman teed up a one-timer off a Blake Heward pass and blasted it by Saskatchewan goalie Roddy Ross, but Saskatchewan replied in short order with another pair of quick goals. Carter Stebbings and Chantz Petruic scored 1:24 apart, putting the Huskies up 5-2 heading into the second intermission.
  • The Huskies added two more insurance goals in the third as Cade Hayes and Petruic both scored for the home team.

NOTES
  • Noah Wills also assisted on Shindle's goal, while Jackson Doucet drew the second helper on McNutt's goal.
  • Saskatchewan was 1-for-4 on the power play. Regina was 0-for-2.

NEXT UP
The Cougars will hit the road next weekend to square off with No. 4-ranked Alberta on Friday and Saturday. Both of those games against the Golden Bears are scheduled for a 7:00 PM (MT) start time at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton.
