Women's Volleyball
The Cougars Women's Volleyball spent the Halloween weekend in Abbottsford, BC to take on Fraser Valley.
 
On Friday, the Cougars lost the first two sets and battled back to win the third before falling in the fourth to lose 3-1.
 
Anna Schultz had 16 kills and an incredible .652 attack percentage in the loss.
 
Saturdays game had a similar result. Fraser Valley narrowly won the first set 25-23 and won the second. Once again, the Cougars won the third but could not extend the game in the fourth and fell 3-1.
 
Piper Harkness had 4 aces and 
Zoey Thompson had another strong defensive performance with 7 blocks.
 
The Cougars now head into a bye week, before hosting Thompson Rivers on Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15.
 
Women's Hockey
The Cougars hosted the #1 ranked UBC Thunderbirds over the weekend.
 
On Friday, the Cougars lost 4-0.
 
Natalie Williamson set a new U of R record with 55 saves in the game, including 24 in the first period alone.
 
Kaitlyn Gilroy had 4 shots for the Cougars.
 
On Saturday, the Cougars went down early again, surrendering two 1
st period goals. They got on the board in the 2
nd, when 
Makena Kushniruk scored on the power play, with assists from 
Olivia Leggett and 
Quinn McLaren.
 
The score stayed 2-1 for the majority of the 3
rd period, but the Thunderbirds added an empty net goal late to seal it.
 
Amy Swayze got the start in net and had 53 saves.
 
The Cougars will now head to Edmonton to take on MacEwan on Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8.
 
Women's Basketball
The Cougars Women's Basketball team hosted the Manitoba Bisons to begin their season.
 
On Friday, the Cougars led 39-29 at half and a monster 3
rd quarter propelled them to an 87-53 victory.
 
Cara Misskey and 
Jade Belmore led all scorers with 18 a piece. Misskey added 5 assists and 6 rebounds.
 
Saturday's game was all Cougars from the start.
 
They outscored the Bisons 26-4 in the opening frame and cruised to an 83-51 win.
 
Misskey led the Cougars with 16 points and 9 assists. 1
st-year guard 
Lilly Vande Graaf added 12 points on 4-6 shooting.
 
The Cougars start the Canada West season 2-0 for the first time in three years. They will look to continue their hot start with a home series against Lethbridge on Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8.
 
Men's Hockey
The Cougars Men's hockey team travelled to Vancouver to take on the #4 ranked UBC Thunderbirds over the weekend.
 
On Friday, the Thunderbirds scored the first three goals of the contest, but the Cougars rallied back with goals from 
Jaxon Steele and 
Ashton Fishley in the 2
nd period.  However, UBC scored two power play goals in the 3
rd to win 5-2.
 
Kade Runke, 
Matt Culling, 
Jaron Desnoyers, and 
Blake Heward all had assists in the contest. 
Damon Cunningham had 38 saves in net.
 
On Saturday, the Thunderbirds scored 5 goals in the first period and won 7-2.
 
Jaxon Steele and 
Eric Houk had goals for the Cougars. 
Blake Heward, 
Matt Culling, 
Jackson Doucet, and 
Rylan Silzer added assists.
 
Next up, the Cougars will host MacEwan on Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8.
 
Men's Basketball
The Cougars opened their season at home against the Manitoba Bisons.
 
On Friday, the Cougars trailed by 6 at the half, but a huge 3
rd quarter by the Bisons blew the game open. The Cougars lost 78-62.
 
Lodie Kenyi led all scorers with 17 points and added 6 rebounds and 4 assists. 
Kaz Dornstauder had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Saturday's game was back and forth from the start.
 
The Cougars led by four at half but found themselves trailing by 1 heading into the 4
th quarter. They scored 24 points in the final frame to win 77-72.
 
Lodie Kenyi had 11 of his 21 points in the 4
th quarter. 
Ben Kamba had 17 points, while 
Isaiah Bay had an efficient 16 points off the bench for the Cougars.
 
They are now set for a home series against Lethbridge on Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8.
