QUICKLY
Turner McMillen's four-point night helped power the University of Regina's men's hockey team to a 5-3 victory over MacEwan on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre in Regina.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- McMillen got things started six minutes in. Eric Pearce took the puck hard to the MacEwan net and while Griffins goalie Brett Epp made the initial save and the second, McMillen was finally able to jam it home for his third of the season.
- MacEwan then scored all three of its goals in a span of 5:49 in the first period. Caden Cabana and Brendan Boyle both scored to give the Griffins the lead, and Sean Comrie's power play goal put the visitors up 3-1 just a couple minutes later.
- The Cougars were able to respond before the first intermission. Ayden Third pinched to keep the puck in the MacEwan zone then went to the front of the net, where he was able to collect the rebound following a blocked McMillen point shot. Third's backhand beat Epp for his first of the year, getting the Cougars to within one.
- Regina scored the only two goals of the second period in a span of just 75 seconds. First it was rookie defenceman Ashton Fishley, who fired a shot towards the MacEwan net from the left half wall and it found its way in for his first U SPORTS goal. Just over a minute later, McMillen forced a turnover in the MacEwan zone which led to a pair of opportunities for Pearce. Epp stopped both of those, but Eric Houk was there to score what would turn out to be the game-winning goal.
- Regina went into the third up 4-3, and the Cougars capped the scoring early in the final period on the power play. McMillen found Houk open down low and Houk wrapped it around Epp on his forehand to give the U of R some insurance.
NOTES
