Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cougars finish conference schedule at 13-7 after loss to Calgary

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's basketball team finished off the Canada West schedule with an 81-64 setback to No. 8 Calgary on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Calgary never trailed after an 8-1 run to close out the first quarter, which included a Myriam Kome three-pointer right at the end of the period.
  • The Cougars stayed within range of Calgary in the second and made it a one-possession game on back-to-back triples by Cara Misskey and Maddy Seida late in the quarter, but Kone again hit a three at the end of the period and Calgary took a 37-31 lead into the break.
  • The third quarter saw Calgary build up its first double-digit lead of the contest. The Dinos led by as many as 15 before a pair of three-pointers by Izzi Fust powered a quick 8-0 run for Regina, but Calgary quickly restored the 10-point lead and cruised to the win in the fourth.

NOTES
  • Pollyanna Storie came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points for Calgary. Lilia Skumatova scored 18, while Kone finished with 16 to go along with a game-high 7 assists.
  • Misskey led Regina with 21 points. Fust finished with 16 points, while Jade Belmore scored 10 and added 11 rebounds for the game's lone double-double.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will travel to the West Coast as Canada West's No. 7 seed next weekend. They'll play No. 10 seed UBC Okanagan in a play-in game, with the winner moving on to the Canada West quarterfinals against UBC.
  • Calgary will be the No. 5 seed in the Canada West postseason. The Dinos will meet Manitoba in a play-in game hosted by Fraser Valley on Friday, with the winner to advance to play the Cascades in a quarterfinal the next day.
