Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

U of R's season finishes with three-set setback to UBC Okanagan

Heat win 25-17, 25-11, 25-21

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's volleyball team finished off its 2024-25 season with a 3-0 road loss to UBC Okanagan on Saturday night in Kelowna.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set went to UBC Okanagan by a 25-17 margin, with the Heat using a quick 4-0 run to turn what had been a relatively close 18-14 set into a 22-14 advantage before closing it out with a Madison Gardner kill.
  • UBC Okanagan cruised to a big 25-11 win in the second set, going on 6-1 and 6-0 surges during the frame and holding Regina to a negative hitting percentage.
  • The third set looked like it might be a different story when Samantha Krausher went on an extended run at the baseline. Krausher started her run with back-to-back aces, helping the Cougars register five consecutive early points which put the visitors in front. But OBC Okanagan quickly replied with a 6-1 run to take the lead back. Regina pulled back ahead at 12-11, but that would be the U of R's final lead of the match. UBC Okanagan led the rest of the way, pulling ahead late for a 25-21 win.

NOTES
  • Olivia Boulding led UBC Okanagan (6-12) with 11 kills. Amaya Perry had 9 kills and 12 digs.
  • Playing in her final match as a Cougar, Devyn Grimsrud tied for the team lead with six kills. Krausher also ended up with six kills to go along with her pair of aces.

NEXT SEASON
The U of R expects to return all but Grimsrud to next season's roster. The Cougars have one commit for the 2025-26 season, as libero Reese Stroeder (Lanigan, Sask.) signed back in early December.
