QUICKLY
The No. 5-ranked Regina Rams came into Friday as the only remaining undefeated Canada West team, but suffered a 22-20 loss to Saskatchewan on Friday night in a U-Prairie Challenge matchup at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park in Saskatoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Saskatchewan received the game's opening kickoff and immediately drove for the first major of the game, finishing it off on a three-yard run by Ryker Frank.
- The Rams replied later in the first quarter after taking over near midfield. Marshall Erichsen did the majority of the work to get the ball into the red zone, and Noah Pelletier hit Renzel Arinaza for a seven-yard touchdown pass which tied the game at 7-7.
- The teams both scored three points early in the second quarter - Regina's coming on a short Ty Gorniak field goal and Saskatchewan's on a conceded safety and a rouge - before Pelletier engineered what would be the team's most impressive drive just before halftime. He completed six passes to six different receivers, the last being a nine-yard toss to Nicholas Sirleaf at the back of the end zone which put the Rams up 17-10 at the break.
- Pelletier's offence again clicked on the first drive of the second half, but a 28-yard field goal by Gorniak would turn out to be the final points of the game for the Rams. Regina conceded a safety midway through the third and Lukas Scott hit a field goal for Saskatchewan midway through the fourth to get the Huskies to within five, but on the home side's next possession Anton Amundrud connected with Daniel Wiebe for a 60-yard touchdown which put them up 21-20.
- But the Rams turned the ball over three times in the game's final three minutes, including on the kickoff after Wiebe's score which gave the Huskies the ball on Regina's 29. The Rams escaped that one nearly unscathed as Scott's missed field goal went for a near-meaningless rouge, but on their next drive Pelletier was stopped on third down. The Rams also escaped that one as Scott missed another field goal which Sirleaf ran out of the end zone, which set up Regina on its own 20 with 1:14 to go. An offside penalty helped put the Rams into a 3rd-and-9 situation, and a Pelletier pass to Emmett Steadman fell incomplete to all but seal the win for the Huskies.
STANDINGS SHAKEUP
After entering Friday's game in sole possession of first place in the Canada West standings, the Rams fall to second with the result. Both Saskatchewan and Regina sit at 3-1, but the Huskies take over first place as they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.

- Erichsen rushed 17 times for 76 yards while Pelletier finished 21-for-38 for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns.
