Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 4 Cougars roll to 83-66 win over No. 2 Alberta in Prairie Division clash

Belmore scores 23 as Regina improves to 15-0

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's No. 4-ranked women's basketball team kept rolling on Friday night with an 83-66 home victory over No. 2 Alberta at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Cougars led for most of the first half, but Alberta hung around and the Pandas briefly took a 33-31 lead with under two minutes to go to halftime. Regina closed halftime on a 9-0 run courtesy of a Cara Misskey three-point play and back-to-back triples by Izzi Fust, which put the Cougars up 40-31 at the break.
  • Regina continued the strong play in the third quarter, at one point going on a 13-5 run which stretched the home side's lead to 55-41. The Cougars led 64-53 after three and held a double-digit advantage for the entire fourth quarter in the win.
  • Jade Belmore scored a season-high 23 points for the Cougars, going 6-for-10 from the field including 4-for-4 on three-pointers. Misskey added 16 points and 6 assists while Rachel Vanderhooft and Fust both scored 11.
  • Annacy Palmer led Alberta with 17 points.

WITH THE WIN
  • The Cougars improve to 15-0 and remain deadlocked with Saskatchewan for first place in Canada West's East Division. The Huskies also moved to 15-0 on Friday with a home win over Calgary.
  • Regina could mathematically clinch a top-two finish in the East Division - and the right to host a Canada West quarterfinal game in February - with another win over Alberta on Saturday night combined with a Calgary loss to Saskatchewan.

NEXT UP
  • The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
