University of Regina men's hockey head coach
Trevor Keeper announced Wednesday the commitment of forwards Noah Asmundson and Riley Fequet, along with defenceman Rylan Pearce, to the Cougars for the 2026-27 season.
Asmundson, a centre from White City, Sask., currently plays for the Estevan Bruins of the SJHL and has recorded 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 41 games this season. A former Regina Pat Canadians forward, Asmundson split the 2023-24 campaign between the Humboldt Broncos and the Niverville Nighthawks before averaging nearly a point per game as a 19-year-old last year with the Columbia Valley Rockies of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
Asmundson also has a family connection to the program as his father, Travis Asmundson, played for the Cougars during the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons.
"Noah is a big power forward who's having a breakout season with Estevan," Keeper said. "He combines size, scoring touch, and team-first character and we're excited to get him on campus and see him continue to develop at the Canada West level."
Fequet, a forward from Beaumont, Alta., was recently acquired by the Winkler Flyers at the MJHL trade deadline after two and a half seasons with the Swan Valley Stampeders. He has tallied 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points in 39 games this season. Prior to joining Swan Valley, Fequet played one season of U18 AAA with the Leduc Oil Kings. He served as an alternate captain with the Stampeders last season and wore the captain's "C" this year before being traded to Winkler.
"Riley has good size, great speed, and a quick release," Keeper said. "He's got quality leadership skills and we think his skill set is one that will translate well to U SPORTS hockey."
Pearce brings significant major junior experience to the Cougars, having played two full Western Hockey League seasons with the Everett Silvertips in 2023-24 and 2024-25. He began the current season with Everett before being traded to the Regina Pats in November, and was later assigned to the Weyburn Red Wings in January. Since joining Weyburn, Pearce has been one of the SJHL's top defencemen with 12 points in 10 games.
A product of Martensville, Sask., Pearce appeared in 170 WHL regular-season games, compiling 12 goals, 32 assists, and 44 points, and added 22 postseason games with Everett. He played two seasons of U18 AAA with the Warman Wildcats before beginning his junior career as a 17-year-old with the Kamloops Blazers and the Flin Flon Bombers.
"Rylan is a smooth-skating, two-way defencemen who we're extremely excited to have in the fold for next year," Keeper said. "He brings a wealth of experience to the program and we think he's a player who can make an immediate impact for us next season."
