Lisa Robertson announced Tuesday that Ted Murphy has been named head coach of the U of R's women's and men's swimming teams.
Murphy will also serve as head coach of the Regina Optimist Dolphins club, which the U of R's swimming teams work in close partnership with.
"We're thrilled to welcome Ted to the University of Regina," Robertson said. "He brings a wealth of experience along with a proven ability to develop athletes and build strong programs. We're excited to have him on campus and look forward to the impact he'll make with our student-athletes and within the broader swimming community."
Murphy most recently served as group lead coach with the Saskatoon Goldfins for the past three years. Prior to that, he was head coach of the Silver Tide Swim Club (Sherwood Park, Alta.), the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club (Medicine Hat), and the Okotoks Mavericks. He also spent several years as an assistant coach with the Cascade Swim Club in Calgary and as a national development coach with the Etobicoke Swim Club.
A former high-level swimmer, Murphy attended Texas Christian University and competed for the Horned Frogs (NCAA Div. I) from 1992 to 1997. He also competed at the Canadian Olympic Trials in 1992 and 1996 before beginning his coaching career with the Fort Worth Area Swim Team in 1997.
Murphy will officially begin his duties on Monday, Aug. 3.
