QUICKLY
Freya Millar and Alyssa Falk both scored their first U SPORTS goals as the University of Regina's women's soccer team took a 2-1 victory over Lethbridge on Friday night in their home opener at the U of R Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cougars got on the board first after Millar took advantage of a giveaway by the Lethbridge back line midway through the opening half. Millar pounced on the turnover near the top right edge of the box and chipped it over Pronghorns keeper Kate Prince to notch Regina's first goal of the Canada West season.
• The score stayed 1-0 in favour of the Cougars until late in the second half when the home side finally broke through after some sustained pressure and quality chances. Jenna Muir sent a perfect ball through to Falk, who had entered as a substitute in the 61st minute. Falk found herself alone against Prince and buried a shot into the right corner, giving the Cougars a two-goal cushion in the 78th minute.
• Lethbridge got one back in the 86th minute. Kyra Piekema moved the ball to Julia Reale, who made a nice one-touch pass up to Brynn Birnie. Birnie held off a U of R defender and scored, but that was as close as the Pronghorns would come as Regina hung on for the one-goal victory.

NOTES

• Peyton Magnuson collected her fifth career win in net for Regina. Magnuson was given credit for one save, turning aside a Kate Kungel shot from the right in the 31st minute.
• Muir, Millar, Mikaela De Luca, Hannah Wol-Harden, Mackenzie Albert, Ariana Hryniuk, Hadiza Kasim, Mya Pilat, Zoya Kim, and Ashlyn Paquin were the starters for the Cougars. Besides Falk, Dannah Garcia and Teslynn Gramchuk-Ryba got in the game as subs. Both Garcia and Gramchuk-Ryba played the entire second half.

The Cougars (1-2-0) will host Lethbridge again on Saturday night at the U of R Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
