Mike Vandenberghe is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Cougars.

Prior to joining the Cougars, Vandenberghe served as the head coach of the Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL) and also has one season of professional coaching experience, as he guided the United Hockey League's Knoxville Speed during the 2001-02 season.

Vandenberghe's extensive playing resume includes four full seasons in the Western Hockey League with Brandon and Medicine Hat and eight professional seasons with the Richmond Renegades, Dayton Bombers, Knoxville Cherokees, San Angelo Outlaws, Corpus Christi Icerays, Lake Charles Ice Pirates, Odessa Jackalopes, and Knoxville Speed.
