Steven Christie's tip-in at the buzzer at the end of overtime gave the University of Regina's men's basketball team an 89-87 win over Thompson Rivers on Friday night in a wild Canada West game held at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, B.C.

With 23 seconds left in the extra session, the WolfPack's Drew Bleth hit a free throw to go up by four points. U of R third-year guard Jeff Lukomski drilled a three-pointer to cut the lead to one, but Bleth sank two more free throws to put Thompson Rivers back up by three.

Lukomski hit another three ball with six seconds left to tie the ball game at 87. TRU called timeout and had the ball at half court, but the WolfPack's inbound pass was fumbled and Paul Schubach came up with it. Schubach took the ball down and attempted a heavily contested layup which didn't fall, but Christie elevated for the rebound and tipped it in at the buzzer to secure the victory.

Lukomski was 6-for-17 from beyond the arc and led the Cougars with 24 points, while Jamal Williams had 21 points and 11 rebounds to record his third consecutive double-double. Kris Heshka had a solid game for Regina before fouling out in overtime, ending up with 19 points, nine rebounds, and seven steals.

Marek Downarowicz had six points and five rebounds in 22 minutes, but fouled out late in the fourth quarter. The Cougars finished overtime with Christie, Lynn Gee, Lukomski, Schubach, and Williams on the floor.

Bleth put up a game-high 26 points for the Wolfpack and added 11 rebounds. TRU's Jeff Friesen had 13 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists and was on the floor for 44 minutes.

The Cougars improve to 4-3 on the season and can take a two-game lead atop the Great Plains Division with a win on Saturday night at Fraser Valley (6-3). Game time is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. CST.

NOTES: Jordan McFarlen didn't make the trip out to British Columbia because of a death in his family ... Lukomski's 17 three-point attempts was a career high, breaking his previous high of 16, set last year in a game against Manitoba ... the Cougars went into overtime tonight for the first time since Nov. 25, 2006.
