The University of Regina's men's basketball team extended its winning streak to three games after defeating the Fraser Valley Cascades by a 68-65 score on Saturday night at the Envision Athletic Centre in Abbotsford, B.C.

Regina had an eight-point lead built up by the middle of the fourth quarter, but the Cascades went on an 11-2 run to take a 65-64 lead with a minute remaining. The Cougars regained the lead for good when Jamal Williams hit a pair of clutch free throws following a foul after a missed Fraser Valley three-pointer, and the Cascades' Sheldon Bjorgaard missed two shots in the waning seconds of the game.

Williams led the Cougars with 20 points and added ten rebounds to secure his fourth double-double in a row. Kris Heshka also had a double-double, ending up with 15 points and ten boards. Jeff Lukomski had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Marek Downarowicz had nine points and nine rebounds and played 35 minutes in his first career start.

Sam Freeman led Fraser Valley with 22 points, while Josh Kufske had 18 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. The Cascades, who currently sit in third place in the Pacific Division, fall to 6-4 on the season.

The Cougars (5-3) have won each of their past three games by three points or less. They hold a two-game lead atop the Great Plains Division over Brandon and Manitoba, who are both at 3-5.

Next weekend, the Cougars and the Bobcats will play a two-game series in a rematch of last season's division final, which was won by Brandon in three games. The teams will meet at 8 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

Following the Brandon series, the Cougars will have a month-long Christmas break before returning to action on Jan. 2 and 3 at Trinity Western and Simon Fraser.
