Lethbridge defeats Cougars 100-80

The University of Regina's men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night, falling 100-80 to the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

The Cougars trailed by just five points at halftime, but Lethbridge outscored Regina by a 30-17 margin in the third quarter to take an 18-point lead into the fourth. The Cougars chipped the lead down to 13 points at one point in the final frame, but couldn't draw any closer.

Danhue Lawrence shot 10-for-15 from the field, including 5-for-7 from beyond the three-point line, and scored a game-high 32 points for the Pronghorns. Lethbridge also had 23 points and eight rebounds from Rob Cooper.

Third-year forward Kris Heshka scored 20 points for the second consecutive game to lead the Cougars, and also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Jamal Williams had 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists for the U of R.

The Cougars (2-1) will square off with the No. 7-ranked Calgary Dinos (4-1) on Saturday night in Calgary. Live video and statistics will be available for the game.

NOTES: Williams scored the 600th point of his career on a bucket midway through the first quarter.
