The University of Regina's women's soccer team will travel to Winnipeg this weekend to play the No. 6-ranked Manitoba Bisons on Saturday and Sunday.

The much-improved Cougars (0-0-2) started off the season last weekend with draws against Calgary and Lethbridge. On Saturday, Regina midfielder Tiffany Gyurek tapped in a high cross from Tarina Mayer with just seconds remaining before injury time in the second half to give the Cougars a 1-1 tie with the Dinos. Sunday's game was a scrappy 0-0 affair with the Pronghorns.

Second-year goalkeeper Michelle Anderson allowed just one goal over the two games and had a .923 save percentage, and was rewarded for her efforts by being named the Canada West Female Athlete of the Week. Anderson became the first member of the U of R's women's soccer team to earn the honour since Jessica Waller during the 2002 season.

Manitoba (2-0-0) started off the season with wins against Calgary and Lethbridge, defeating the Pronghorns 4-1 on Saturday and blanking the Dinos by a 4-0 score on Sunday. Third-year forward Karli Colpitts scored five of the Bisons' eight goals last weekend, including a hat trick against Calgary.

The Bisons won both of the meetings between these two teams last year, winning 3-1 and 2-0 in Regina on the last weekend of the regular season.

Saturday's match is scheduled for 10 a.m. local time (9 a.m. CST), while Sunday's match will kick off at noon local time (11 a.m. CST).

After this weekend, the Cougars will be in action next on Sept. 20 (at Alberta) and Sept. 21 (at Saskatchewan).
