The University of Saskatchewan's women's basketball team extended its conference winning streak to 12 games after coasting to a 76-48 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night in a Canada West game at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport on the campus of the U of R.

The teams were separated by just six points at halftime, but the Huskies outscored the Cougars by a 26-13 margin in the third quarter and 18-9 in the fourth to secure the victory.

The victory improves No. 3 Saskatchewan's record to 14-2 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 12-4.

The Huskies put four players into double digits in scoring. Kim Tulloch led the way with 14 points, with Amy Prokop (13), Kara Lackie (12), and Marci Kiselyk (11) following suit. Jill Humbert had seven points and added a game-high eight assists for Saskatchewan.

Chelsea Cassano led the way for the Cougars with 13 points and also added nine rebounds. Rebecca Schmidt had 11 points for Regina, while Jessica Lynch led all players with 14 rebounds.

The Huskies seemed to hit every big shot on this night, ending up 9-for-18 from beyond the three-point arc led by Prokop, who hit all three of her triples. Saskatchewan shot 48% from the field, while the Cougars were 33%.

Now with a three-game lead over Alberta (11-5) for the Central Division lead, the Huskies will prepare for a pivotal division matchup against those Pandas in Saskatoon next weekend.

Despite the loss, it wasn't all bad news for the Cougars on Saturday night. They got some help from the out-of-town scoreboard, as the Victoria Vikes defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen by a 69-56 score. Winnipeg's loss moves its record to 10-6, as the Wesmen are still two games behind Regina for first place in the Great Plains Division. Next weekend, the Cougars and the Wesmen will square off in Winnipeg.

NOTES: Cassano's 13 points leave her just four points shy of 1000 for her career … Cassano should become the ninth U of R player to achieve the milestone.
