The University of Regina's men's basketball team completed a two-game weekend sweep over Alberta on Saturday night, defeating the Golden Bears 78-73 in a Canada West game in Edmonton.

The Cougars trailed by as many as 13 points late in the second quarter, but turned things around with a 10-0 run midway through the third to take the lead. Jeff Lukomski hit back-to-back-to-back three pointers early in the fourth quarter, turning a tie ball game into a nine-point lead that Regina would never relinquish.

Lukomski ended up with a game-high 18 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter alone. Paul Schubach had 17 points, with Jamal Williams (12) and Jordan McFarlen (11) also breaking into double figures in scoring.

Harvey Bradford led Alberta with 17 points.

The Cougars improve to 3-3 with the win, while the Golden Bears are now 4-4. Both teams are part of a four-way tie for second place in a packed Prairie Division.

Regina will return home next weekend, as the Cougars will host Fraser Valley on Friday and Trinity Western on Saturday.

NOTES: Entering the weekend, the Cougars had never won a conference game on the road over the Golden Bears, as Alberta had won all eight contests between the two teams in Edmonton … the Cougars have now won four of the last five meetings between the two teams dating back to 2006 ... Williams now needs just five points to hit the 1000 mark for his career, while Lukomski is 33 points shy of the milestone.
