The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades hit nine three-pointers in the first half alone and cruised to an 89-73 road victory over the Regina Cougars on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars led for the majority of the first quarter, but back-to-back-to-back three-pointers by Zeon Gray gave Fraser Valley a seven-point lead after the opening frame. The Cascades got a bucket from Kyle Grewal and a three ball from Sheldon Bjorgaard to open the second quarter, capping a 14-0 run that gave the visitors a double-digit lead that would never relinquish.
Fraser Valley led by as many as 24 points in the second quarter and were able to quash any attempts by the Cougars to climb back into the game.
Gray, in his first season with Fraser Valley after transferring from Whatcom Community College, was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and piled up a game-high 23 points for the Cascades. Jasper Moedt (15 points), Bjoorgard (14), Craig Bauslaugh (12), and Grewal (12) also scored in double figures for the Cascades.
