The University of Regina's men's basketball team improved to 5-6 on the season after recording a come-from-behind 84-74 victory over Manitoba on Friday night at the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg.
Manitoba dominated most of the first half, as the Bisons opened up an 18-point lead at one point in the latter stages of the second quarter. The Cougars cut the deficit to 11 at the halftime break and went on a 17-3 run over a span of just two minutes early in the third to take the lead.
The Cougars were able to hold Manitoba off down the stretch, as they outscored the Bisons by a 23-14 margin in the fourth quarter.
Jamal Williams led the Cougars in scoring for the third consecutive game, collecting 23 points and nine rebounds.
Jeff Lukomski had 16 points for the Cougars, while
Jimmy Scroggins came off the bench to score 14 points in 21 minutes on the floor.
Nathan Dixon had 21 points to lead the Bisons.
The Cougars sit in a tie for third place in the wild Prairie Division standings, which currently have the second place and seventh place teams separated by just two wins. Manitoba falls to 4-7 with the loss.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the IGAC.
