1/22/2010 10:28:03 AM

The University of Regina's basketball teams will play in the friendly confines of the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport on Friday and Saturday for the first time since late November. The Cougars will entertain the Brandon Bobcats, with the women's games scheduled for 6:15 p.m. and the men's tip-off at 8 p.m. on both nights.

The U of R's women's team is up two spots this week to No. 2 in the CIS Top Ten, thanks to a pair of wins at Manitoba last weekend and losses by both Windsor and Saskatchewan. The Cougars took out the Bisons by scores of 74-66 and 76-50 last weekend, led by third-year post Brittany Read's 41 points, 22 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots over the two games.

Though Brandon enters the weekend with at 2-10, the Bobcats are coming off of a split against Lethbridge. They defeated the Pronghorns 65-60 last Saturday before suffering a five-point loss on Sunday. Brandon's top scorer is fourth-year post Jayla Bousquet, who averages 11.4 points per game.

On the men's side, the Cougars registered a critical two-game sweep over Manitoba last weekend to improve their Canada West record to 6-6. Regina had a come-from-behind 84-74 victory on Friday and followed that up with an 86-73 win on Saturday.

Entering the weekend, the Cougars are in sole possession of third place in the wild Prairie Division standings, which have five teams separated by just one win. Following this weekend, the Cougars will finish off their regular season schedule with two games each against No. 5-ranked Calgary, Winnipeg, and Saskatchewan.

Friday's game will mark the home debut of Jimmy Scroggins, who joined the Cougars over the Christmas break. Scroggins, an athletic 6'2” wing, is averaging 9.5 points and 23.8 minutes played per game.

Brandon, coming off a weekend split against Lethbridge, enters the weekend with a 6-8 record. The Bobcats are led by three-time Canada West first-team all-star Dany Charlery, who ranks third in the conference with an average of 20.9 points per game.
