Cougars sweep Simon Fraser; improve Canada West record to 9-5

A winter storm had southern Saskatchewan in its grips on Sunday afternoon, but the University of Regina's women's volleyball team continued its hot streak with a straight-sets win over Simon Fraser.

The Cougars came out strong in the first set, blasting seven service aces in a 25-11 win. Regina jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a 25-18 win in the second set, then had a hitting percentage of .481 in a 25-17 victory in the third.

Beth Clark had another strong game for Regina, leading all players with 12 kills and tying Solveig Nilson with six total blocks. Kaitlyn Hughes hit .583 for the Cougars and had 11 digs, while libero Rebecca Rink had a match-high 17 digs.

Krystyna Adams led Simon Fraser (1-14) with seven kills. Brooke Halvorsen had a team-leading ten digs, while Kristjana Fridfinnson and Colleen Douville each had six total blocks.

Simon Fraser will return to action next weekend at home against Winnipeg (5-8).

The Cougars, who hit .292 as a team and had 13 total blocks in the win, improve to 9-5 on the season and have now won three of their past four matches. Regina will host the Calgary Dinos (6-8) next Friday and Saturday at the CKHS.
