The University of Regina's men's basketball team couldn't overcome a sub-par third quarter, losing a 93-84 decision to the No. 6-ranked Calgary Dinos on Saturday night at the Jack Simpson Gym in Calgary.
The Cougars went into halftime trailing the Dinos by just two points, but Calgary took control of the game after outscoring Regina by a 24-11 margin in the third. The Cougars scored 36 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit as Calgary held on for a nine-point win.
Robbie Sihota led Calgary in both points (20) and rebounds (11). Four other Dinos scored in double figures, including Jamie McLeod (17 points), Dustin Reding (14), Tyler Fidler (11), and Ross Bekkering (11).
Regina's
Jeff Lukomski was 6-for-12 from three-point land and led all players with 23 points.
Jamal Williams had nine points and a team-leading nine rebounds, while
Paul Schubach had 18 points and dished out five assists.
The loss drops the Cougars back to the .500 mark, as Regina now sits in fourth place in the Canada West standings with an 8-8 record.
Regina will return home next weekend for a pair of home games against Winnipeg (0-17) at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
NOTES: Lukomski now has 230 career three-pointers, nine short of the Canada West record of 239 shared by Lethbridge's Danny Balderson (1993-95, 1997-00) and UBC's Casey Archibald (2002-07).
