Women’s volleyball topped by Dinos in straight sets

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was dropped in straight sets on Friday night by the Calgary Dinos in a Canada West match at the Jack Simpson Gym in Calgary.

The Cougars were agents of their own demise in the first set, registering seven service errors in a 25-21 loss. Calgary dominated in a 25-14 win in the second, then clinched the match with a 25-23 victory in the third set which saw the Dinos finish off the Cougars with four consecutive points.

Lindsay Russell led Calgary with 11 kills and had a match-high .579 hitting percentage. Laura Wilson had 10 kills for the Dinos, while Sarah Lacny had 32 assists and tied Brooke Halvorsen for the team lead with nine digs. Lacny and Melanie Miazga both had four blocks.

Solveig Nilson had 11 kills and a team-leading .500 hitting percentage, while Meagan Onstad had eight kills and eight digs in the loss.

The No. 8-ranked Cougars and the No. 9-ranked Dinos will meet again in Calgary on Saturday night.
