The University of Regina's men's basketball team pulled away from the Lethbridge Pronghorns down the stretch to record a 95-84 victory in a Canada West game on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The turning point came just after the six-minute mark of the fourth quarter. With the Cougars clinging to a one-point lead, Sterling Nostedt hit a clutch three-pointer which was immediately followed by a steal by Paul Gareau at midcourt. Gareau took the ball down for an easy two, giving the home side a six-point advantage. The Cougars never led by less than five points after that, as their record improves to 3-0 on the season.

Gareau was 8-for-10 from the field and ended up with a game-high 22 points for the Cougars. The third-year forward also pulled down 10 rebounds to register his team's lone double-double. Nostedt was 4-for-11 from three-point range and scored 18, while Marek Downarowicz had 11 and Matt Campbell came off the bench to score 10.

Derek Waldner had 21 points and 12 rebounds for Lethbridge before fouling out in the fourth. Julian Spear Chief-Morris had 14 for the Pronghorns, while Abner Kamps had nine points and 10 rebounds. The Pronghorns fall to 1-4 with the loss.

The win improves Regina's record to 3-0. The Cougars are the only undefeated team in Canada West, as Alberta and Manitoba were both beaten on Friday night.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday afternoon at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. following the women's game.
