The University of Saskatchewan's men's basketball team clinched second place in Canada West's Prairie Division after defeating the Regina Cougars by a 92-75 score on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Huskies built up a double-digit lead after scoring seven consecutive points just before halftime and took full control after extending the lead to 19 just three minutes into the third.

Showron Glover led the way with 29 points for the Huskies, who will host Fraser Valley in the first round of the playoffs beginning on Feb. 26. Michael Linklater had 18 points and a game-high six assists, while Troy Gottselig scored 16 and added 13 rebounds to notch a double-double. Duncan Jones had 12 points in 14 minutes off the bench for the Huskies.

Kris Heshka had a team-high 19 points for the Cougars and added 12 rebounds to record his sixth double-double of the season. Playing in their final games at the CKHS, Jamal Williams had 17 points and Paul Schubach had 12. Both fifth-year players had five assists.

The win improves Saskatchewan's record to 13-6 on the year, while the Cougars fall to 10-9. Regina will travel to Simon Fraser for the first round of the playoffs, which will begin in Burnaby, B.C. on Feb. 25.

The two teams will finish off the Canada West schedule on Saturday night in Saskatoon. The result of Saturday's contest will not affect the conference standings.

NOTES: Jeff Lukomski hit one three-pointer in the loss, bringing his career total up to 237 … the fourth-year shooting guard is now just two shy of the Canada West career three-point record shared by Casey Archibald (UBC, 2002-07) and Danny Balderson (Lethbridge, 1993-95 and 1997-00).
