Jeff Lukomski became Canada West's all-time leader in career three-pointers, but the University of Regina's men's basketball team dropped a 102-72 decision to the Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday night in Saskatoon.
Needing three triples to break the record, Lukomski hit a three-pointer on the team's first possession of the second half. The fourth-year guard then hit treys on back-to-back possessions midway through the third quarter, giving him the record.
Lukomski's record served as one of the lone highlights of the game for the Cougars, who gave up over 100 points for the first time since the 2007-08 playoffs.
Showron Glover had 30 points for Saskatchewan, while Troy Gottselig scored 20 and added a game-high nine rebounds.
Lukomski led Regina with 21 points.
The Cougars will now prepare for their best-of-three Canada West quarterfinal series against Simon Fraser, which will begin on Thursday, Feb. 25 in Burnaby, B.C.
NOTES: The old Canada West three-point career record was shared by Casey Archibald and Danny Balderson, who both hit 239 during their careers.
