3/13/2010 8:10:33 PM

Box Score The University of Regina's women's basketball team suffered a 69-55 defeat to the Simon Fraser Clan on Saturday night in the semifinals of the 2010 CIS Championship at Burridge Gymnasium on the campus of McMaster University.

The win gives Simon Fraser a berth in the CIS championship game on Sunday afternoon, when the No. 1-seeded Clan will square off with No. 2 Windsor for the national title. The Cougars will play the Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday for a CIS bronze medal.

The Cougars played well defensively, but just weren't able to score enough to keep up with top-ranked Simon Fraser.

"We really executed our game plan defensively and I'm happy we were able to hold them to 69 points," Cougars head coach Dave Taylor said. "We needed to find better looks offensively, and we weren't able to do that."

Lisa Tindle scored a team-high 17 points for Simon Fraser, doing most of her damage from beyond the arc where she was 5-for-14. Kate Hole had 15 points in 18 minutes off the bench for the Clan, while Katie Miyazaki, Laurelle Weigl, and Matteke Hutzler each chipped in with eight.

Joanna Zalesiak led the Cougars in scoring for the fourth consecutive game, collecting game highs in both points (18) and rebounds (10) to secure the lone double-double of the contest. Lindsay Ledingham had 11 points for Regina, while Brittany Read had 10 points and seven rebounds before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter.

The Cougars and Huskies will tip off at 12 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. CST) on Sunday. Access7 will carry the broadcast live, while video webcast will be available through SSN Canada (www.ssncanada.ca).
