The Thompson Rivers WolfPack pay a visit to the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport this weekend to square off with the University of Regina in Canada West men's basketball action on Friday and Saturday. The two teams will meet at 8 p.m. on both nights following the conclusion of the women's game.
The Cougars (7-5) are starting the second half of the Canada West schedule after being the only idle team in the conference last weekend. Thompson Rivers enters the weekend series with a 2-12 record.
Tied with Manitoba for fifth in the Canada West standings, the Cougars are a perfect 6-0 at the CKHS this season and 1-5 on the road. The team's leading scorer is third-year forward
Paul Gareau, who ranks ninth in the conference with an average of 16.9 points per game.
Jeff Lukomski is second on the Cougars with 14 points per contest, while
Kris Heshka averages 11.7 points and a team-leading 6.7 rebounds per game.
Thompson Rivers is coming off a weekend split at home against Winnipeg, where the WolfPack edged the Wesmen 88-87 on Friday – thanks to a 38-point performance by Chas Kok – and lost in overtime on Saturday.
Kok leads the WolfPack with 16.4 points per game, while 7'2” post Greg Stewart is one of just three Canada West players that currently average a double-double per game (14.1 points and 11.9 rebounds). Kevin Pribilsky is a big threat from downtown, as he ranks second in the conference with a .500 percentage from beyond the arc.
The teams will be meeting for the seventh and eighth times since Thompson Rivers joined Canada West prior to the 2005-06 season. Regina holds a 5-1 all-time edge, as the WolfPack's lone win in the series came in the first game between the two teams on Nov. 18, 2005. The last two games between the Cougars and Thompson Rivers have both been won by Regina in overtime.
