Soccer hosts Lethbridge, Calgary in final home matches of season

The University of Regina's women's soccer team plays its final two home matches of the 2011 season this weekend as the Cougars play host to Lethbridge and Calgary at the U of R Field.

The Cougars are coming off of one of their finest offensive displays in the history of the program last weekend, as their four goals in the 4-0 win over Fraser Valley on Saturday were the most scored by the U of R in a victory since the team was established prior to the 2001 season. Tayler Firth, Dana Renneberg, Adrianna Bonutti, and Carly Dueck all scored for the Cougars in the win.

Regina finished off its West Coast swing last weekend at Victoria, but the Vikes squeaked out a 1-0 win to mathematically eliminate the Cougars from the playoff race.

Lethbridge (0-9-1) comes into the weekend still searching for its first win of the season. Goalkeeper Taura Willoughby has started nine of 10 matches for the Pronghorns, while outfielders Shannon Clark, Jaclyn Groten, and Stephanie Groten have each played in all 900 minutes so far.

Calgary (4-3-3) is in the thick of the Canada West playoff race, as the Dinos are in sixth place but just three points back of Victoria with two matches in hand on the Vikes. Calgary's Sarah Benson and Tessa Miller both rank among the conference scoring leaders.

The weekend will mark the final home matches for four fifth-year Cougars, including goalkeeper Michelle Anderson, forward Tegan Koroluk, midfielder Tiffany Gyurek, and fullback Dana Renneberg.

NOTES: The goals by Renneberg and Dueck against Fraser Valley were the first career CIS strikes for both players ... Firth and Bonutti are tied with Anderson and former U of R player Leslie McLennan for fourth on the school's all-time list with four career goals.
