Box Score

The University of Calgary's women's soccer team won a 2-0 decision over the Regina Cougars on Sunday afternoon in a late-season Canada West match at the U of R Field.

Saaraa Premji and Tessa Miller both scored for Calgary, while goalkeeper Kristen Barton made five saves to secure the shutout for the Dinos. Calgary (6-3-3) is tied with Victoria for fourth place in the Canada West standings, but the Dinos have a match in hand on the Vikes (6-4-3).

Molly Glass had six of Regina's 10 shot attempts, three of which were saved by Barton. The Cougars fall to 1-9-2 with the loss.

Calgary scored the game's opening goal in the 18th minute. A cross sent into the box was cleared out by a Regina defender but right to Premji, who lofted it over Regina goalkeeper Michelle Anderson for her first goal of the season.

The Dinos got another 10 minutes later. A long punt by Barton took a high bounce off the turf and found a streaking Miller in behind Regina's back line, and the fourth-year striker made no mistake to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Calgary finishes off the Canada West schedule with critical home matches against UBC and Trinity Western next weekend, while the Cougars end the season on the road against Saskatchewan and Alberta.

NOTES: Fifth-year Cougars Michelle Anderson, Tiffany Gyurek, Tegan Koroluk (pictured), and Dana Renneberg were all honoured after the match as part of Senior Day.
