Box Score

The University of Regina's women's soccer team's season ended with a hard-fought 0-0 road draw against No. 9-ranked Alberta on Sunday afternoon in Edmonton.

Michelle Anderson started the game at keeper for Regina, but moved to striker after halftime. Stephanie Possberg came in for the second half and made six saves to secure the draw, while Anderson ended up with two saves.

Kelti Biggs registered her seventh shutout of the season for Alberta, which finishes in third place in the Canada West standings with a 9-4-1 record. The Pandas will meet UBC (11-1-2) next weekend in a conference semifinal match, with the winner moving onto the conference championship and earning a spot at the CIS Championship in Montreal.

The best chances of the first half went to Alberta. Anderson made a save in tight on Shalla Kadima in the third minute and got some help from the woodwork in the 13th when Kayla Michaels fired a shot off the cross bar.

After Possberg took over in the second half, it was Kadima's turn to strike the woodwork as she bounced a header of the cross bar in the 63rd minute. Alberta had one last solid chance in injury time, but Pandas leading goalscorer Heather Lund was unable to connect with a cross by Elise Emmott.

The Cougars end the season with a 1-11-3 record.

NOTES: Sunday's match is the second consecutive 0-0 game between the two teams, as the Cougars and then-No. 1 Alberta also played to a scoreless draw on Oct. 2, 2010 in Regina.
