Trailing 2-1 after the third set, the visiting Thompson Rivers WolfPack rallied for wins in the fourth and fifth sets to snare a five-set victory over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in Canada West women's volleyball action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The WolfPack took a 25-17 win in the fourth set, then carried that momentum into the fifth where Thompson Rivers built up an early 7-2 lead and coasted to a 15-10 victory to clinch the match.
Thompson Rivers' Katarina Osadchuk had 15 kills and just one error in the win, ending up with a .467 hitting percentage and six blocks. Kelly Asleson had 12 kills and tied for the match lead with seven blocks, while libero Sara Pettersson led all players with 19 digs. Second-year setter Kara Twomey had 40 assists and fell just one dig short of a double-double.
Meagan Onstad and
Roxanne Olynyk both tied Osadchuk for the match lead with 15 kills, while
Solveig Nilson had 11 kills and one error on 19 attacks to give her a .526 hitting percentage. Onstad added 16 digs for a big double-double, while
Rebecca Rink had 16 digs.
Tiffany Herman (50 assists, 11 digs) and Olynyk (11 digs) also had double-doubles.
Trisha Dobson had seven blocks for the Cougars, who recorded 14 as a team.
The Cougars took the first set by a 25-15 margin before Thompson Rivers came back with a 25-19 win in the second. Regina took a 25-16 win in the third to set up the WolfPack rally.
The teams, which are both 2-3 on the season, will square off again on Saturday night at the CKHS following the conclusion of the men's game.
