The University of Regina's men's basketball team dropped to 0-3 on the season after a 100-71 loss to the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday night in Vancouver.

A pair of Sterling Nostedt triples got the Cougars out to an early 6-5 lead, but the No. 5-ranked Thunderbirds reeled off a 23-2 run to open up a commanding lead. The Cougars scored 11 straight points in the second quarter to cut into a lead that reached as many as 30 points and at one point trailed by just 14 after halftime, but UBC put away any doubt with a 16-3 run over a four-minute span in the third quarter.

Nathan Yu was spectacular for UBC, ending up with a game-high 34 points and eight assists. Tommy Nixon added 19 points off the bench for the Thunderbirds, while Malcolm Williams had 15.

Nostedt had a team-high 16 points for Regina, while Connor Burns and Paul Gareau both scored 10. Burns added seven rebounds.

The Cougars will be back in the friendly confines of the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport next weekend for a pair of home games against Calgary (2-2).
