The University of Regina's men's basketball team erased a 14-point deficit en route to an 83-74 win over the Calgary Dinos in a Canada West game on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Regina dug a deep hole in the second quarter after a 15-1 run by Calgary turned a 27-27 tie into a 41-28 advantage for the Dinos, but a timeout called by Cougars head coach James Hillis appeared to calm down the home side as Gradyn Childerhose scored six points in the final minute of the second quarter to cut the lead to eight at the half.

The Cougars rode that momentum into the third, as they reeled off nine consecutive points to tie up the game at 48. A layup by Connor Burns midway through the third gave Regina its first lead since early in the second, and the two teams traded buckets until a huge 22-5 run in the fourth by the Cougars put them ahead by 13.

Calgary's Andrew McGuinness went off for three three-pointers in the span of 18 seconds in the game's waning moments, but the Cougars nailed seven of their eight free throws in the final minute to secure their first conference victory of the season.

Childerhose ended up with a game-high 22 points for the Cougars (1-3) and led all players with 35 minutes on the floor, while Paul Gareau (pictured) scored 13 points in the fourth quarter alone and ended up with 20. Connor Burns had a game-high nine rebounds for Regina.

Tyler Fidler led Calgary (2-3) with 16 points and tied Josh Wolfram for the team lead with eight rebounds. Wolfram and McGuinness both had 14 points for the Dinos, while Keenan Milburn chipped in with 10.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS.
