Sterling Nostedt's steal and layup with seconds left in double overtime gave the University of Regina's men's basketball team a wild 93-91 win over the Calgary Dinos on Saturday night in a Canada West game at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

With the score tied late in double overtime and Calgary with possession, Nostedt picked the pocket of Dinos guard Andrew McGuinness near midcourt and finished off the breakaway layup to put the Cougars up with 10 seconds left. The Dinos had one last chance to pull out a road win, but a three-pointer by McGuinness didn't fall.

Calgary just about won the game in the first overtime, as a Keenan Milburn jumper gave the visitors an 84-82 lead with two seconds left. After a Cougar timeout, a foul called on McGuinness sent Regina's Paul Gareau to the line. Gareau hit both free throws with less than a second remaining on the clock to send it into the second extra session.

The Cougars needed to mount a big comeback for the second consecutive night, as Calgary led by as many as 13 points at one point midway through the second quarter. Regina cut that deficit in the third with a 14-2 run that gave the Cougars their first lead since the opening quarter.

Gareau ended up with a team-high 26 points for the Cougars and added 16 rebounds for a big double-double. Jared Janotta had 12 points and 11 assists and fell just two rebounds short of a rare triple-double as the second-year guard didn't start but matched Gareau with 43 minutes played. Gradyn Childerhose had 15 points and seven rebounds, while Nostedt ended up with 14 points and Brendan Hebert chipped in with 12.

Milburn had a career-high 27 points for Calgary, 20 of which came in the first half alone as the fifth-year guard from Royston, B.C. was nearly unstoppable in the first two quarters. McGuinness had 21 points for the Dinos, while Josh Wolfram had 17 points and a team-high 11 rebounds and Tyler Fidler helped out with 12 points. Milburn, Fidler, and Josh Owen-Thomas all fouled out for the Dinos.

Calgary's conference record drops to 2-4 and the Dinos are now mired in a four-way tie for fifth in Canada West's East Division. Calgary hosts Victoria and UBC at home next weekend, while the Cougars (2-3) hit the road for games at UBC Okanagan and Thompson Rivers.

NOTES: Janotta's 11 assists are tied for third in the U of R's single-game record book ... Saturday's game marked the first double overtime game for Calgary since a 100-92 win over Lethbridge on Nov. 8, 2003.
