Huskies score 104-76 win over Cougars

The University of Saskatchewan's men's basketball team pulled away from the Regina Cougars early and went on to a 104-76 win in a Canada West game on Thursday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Saskatchewan ended the first quarter on a 14-4 run, then outscored the Cougars by a 27-10 margin in the second to take a 32-point lead into halftime. The closest Regina got to the Huskies in the second half was midway through the fourth quarter, when a pair of Jared Janotta free throws cut the deficit to 24.

Duncan Jones was 8-for-11 from the field and led Saskatchewan with 21 points in just 17 minutes on the floor. Rejean Chabot had 19 for the Huskies, while Jamelle Barrett scored 17 points. Nolan Brudehl scored eight and added a game-high 10 rebounds.

Jeff Lukomski led the Cougars with 14 points. Kris Heshka had nine, while Brendan Hebert chipped in with eight points in 15 minutes off the bench.

Saskatchewan shot an even 50% from the floor and was 13-for-30 (43%) from three-point land. The Cougars were 20-for-59 (34%) from the floor and 5-for-25 from beyond the arc.

Saskatchewan improves to 17-4 and clinches a home playoff date with the win. The Cougars fall to 12-9 on the season.

The two teams will play again on Saturday night in Saskatoon.
