The University of Regina's women's basketball team was defeated 100-87 by the No. 1-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday night in Saskatoon.

The Huskies led by 23 points at halftime, but for the second consecutive game, the Cougars mounted a second-half charge to get back into the contest. Regina scored 11 straight points to start the third quarter and went on a 13-2 run late in the third to cut the deficit to six, but weren't able to draw any closer as Saskatchewan pulled away down the stretch.

All five Saskatchewan starters scored in double figures, led by Jill Humbert's 26 points and 24 by Kim Tulloch. Katie Miyazaki had 19 points, while Marci Kiselyk and Jana Spindler both had 12.

Lindsay Ledingham had a career-high 30 points for the Cougars, going 10-for-12 from the field and hitting all four of her three-pointers. Joanna Zalesiak scored 23 points and added eight assists, while Danielle Schmidt scored 11.

Saskatchewan improves to 20-2 with the win and clinches first place in the Canada West standings. The Cougars fall to 17-5 and will close out their conference schedule next weekend against Manitoba.

NOTES: Ledingham becomes the first Cougar to score 30 points in a game since Jana Schweitzer had 34 against Trinity Western on Nov. 19, 2004 … the 187 combined points scored by the two teams is the third most in U of R women's basketball history.
