Jeff Lukomski became the University of Regina's all-time leading scorer on Friday night, but it was the UBC Thunderbirds that came away with a convincing 111-67 win in a Canada West men's basketball game at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Lukomski hit a patented fadeaway three-pointer early in the second quarter to become the U of R's leader in career points scored. He moves past Glen Nelson, whose 1422 career points stood as the school's high since he retired in 1985.

Lukomski's record-breaking shot provided one of the few highlights for the Cougars on a night which saw UBC dominate from start to finish. The Thunderbirds scored 28 of the game's 33 points and led 37-10 after the first quarter. UBC led 60-32 at the half and continued its dominance in the third and fourth quarters, coasting to a 44-point victory.

UBC (17-2) had six players in double figures, led by Nathan Yu's 22 points off the bench. Josh Whyte had 21 for the Thunderbirds, while Brent Malish chipped in with 15, Kamar Burke had 14, and Doug Plumb had 10. Tommy Nixon was 3-for-5 from downtown and ended up with 11 for UBC, which ended up shooting an impressive 61.9% from the field.

Marek Downarowicz equalled his career high with a team-leading 19 points and also paced the U of R with nine rebounds. Paul Gareau and Lukomski both added 13 points for the Cougars, who drop to 12-7 with the loss.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS.

NOTES: The last time the Cougars gave up more points in a game was on Jan. 11, 2002 during a 112-94 loss to Saskatchewan … Lukomski, who now has 1430 career points, also passed former Calgary forward Ross Bekkering for 23rd on Canada West's all-time points list.
