For the second time in as many weekends, the University of Regina's men's basketball team will be charged with the task of squaring off against one of the top teams in the CIS.

This time, it's the No. 3-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies on the docket. The teams will play a rare Thursday night game at the CKHS in Regina before returning to Saskatoon for a Saturday night game.

With the Huskies (16-4) currently sitting in third place in the Canada West standings and Regina (12-8) in sixth place, this series serves as a possible playoff preview for the Canada West quarterfinals which would start on Feb. 25.

The Cougars are coming off of two losses to No. 2 UBC, which snapped a string in which they had won six of their past seven games. The weekend was highlighted by Jeff Lukomski, who became the U of R's all-time leading scorer with a three-pointer on Friday night. Lukomski has 1438 career points and averages 14.8 points per game this season, second on the team to Paul Gareau's average of 18.6 points per contest.

Kris Heshka averages 11.5 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game, while Marek Downarowicz has scored 10.2 points per game this season.

Saskatchewan's offence features two of Canada West's top three scorers. Jamelle Barrett, a transfer from Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, Calif., leads the conference in scoring with an average of 24.5 points per game. Rejean Chabot also averages 22.9 points per contest, which ranks third in Canada West.

Saskatchewan will finish off its Canada West schedule next weekend on the road against Calgary (8-12), while the Cougars will finish with a pair of games at home against Manitoba (9-11).
