Two of the top teams in CIS women's basketball square off this weekend, as the No. 1 Saskatchewan Huskies and the No. 4 Regina Cougars meet in a home-and-home that begins on Thursday in Regina and ends on Saturday in Saskatoon.

The Cougars enter with a 17-3 record and can take sole possession of first place with a two-game sweep over the Huskies. Saskatchewan, which comes in riding a 16-game winning streak, can clinch first in the conference standings with a pair of victories over the Cougars. A split would give Saskatchewan a one-game edge over Regina heading into the final weekend of the conference schedule.

The game will feature Canada West's top two scorers, as Saskatchewan's Kim Tulloch and Regina's Joanna Zalesiak will face off. Tulloch and Zalesiak are the only two players in the conference to score at least 17 points per game, as both have scored 341 through the first 20 games of the season for an average of 17.1 points per contest.

Zalesiak also ranks second in Canada West with 87 assists. Lindsay Ledingham is second on the Cougars in scoring with an average of 13.0 points per game, while Gabrielle Gheyssen averages nine points per contest. Carly Graham has hit 43 three-pointers in her first year with the Cougars and needs just six more to break Bree Burgess' school single-season record of 48 set back in 2000-01.

Jill Humbert has also had a fine season for the Huskies, ranking second on the team with an average of 14.8 points per game and leading Canada West with 90 assists. Katie Miyazaki, a transfer from Simon Fraser, averages 12.7 points per game, is second on Saskatchewan with 82 assists, and has a team-leading 134 rebounds this year.

The teams also met in non-conference action back on Dec. 31, with Saskatchewan taking a 67-59 victory over the Cougars in Saskatoon.

Saskatchewan will finish off its Canada West schedule next weekend on the road against Calgary (10-10), while the Cougars will finish with a pair of games at home against Manitoba (6-14).
