UBC's Janine Frazao took advantage of a misplayed ball in the 15th minute and scored the only goal of the game, giving the No. 5-ranked UBC Thunderbirds a 1-0 win over the Regina Cougars on Friday evening in Vancouver.

Frazao's goal came after a Rachael Sawer cross from deep in Regina territory, which was mishandled by goalkeeper Stephanie Possberg. Frazao, a Canada West second-team all-star last season, jumped on the rebound and deposited her first goal of the young season.

Alyssa Williamson had a two-save shutout for UBC, while Possberg – making her CIS debut in net for the Cougars – made three saves. With Possberg in net, Michelle Anderson played as an outfielder for the first time since the 2007 campaign.

The win improves UBC's record to 2-0-0 on the season, while the Cougars drop to 0-2-1 with the loss.

The Cougars will square off with No. 9-ranked Trinity Western (1-1-0) on Saturday in Langley, B.C.

NOTES: Fourth-year defender Sarah Novak was replaced with Kelsey Abstreiter in the 23rd minute after suffering an injury.
