Cougars topped by No. 9 Trinity Western

The No. 9-ranked Trinity Western Spartans scored twice in the span of eight minutes late in the first half and added another early in the second to coast to a 3-0 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday in Canada West women's soccer action in Langley, B.C.

Daniela Gerig (35') and Jennifer Castillo (43') scored in the first half for the Spartans, with Jenna Di Nunzio assisting on both strikes. Jessica King put the game away with a goal in the 51st minute as Trinity Western improves to 2-1-0 on the season with the victory.

Trinity Western outshot Regina by a 27-4 margin during the win and also enjoyed a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. Kristen Funk made two saves in the shutout for the Spartans.

Regina goalkeeper Michelle Anderson made nine saves for the Cougars.

The Cougars (0-3-1) return home next weekend for a pair of matches against the University of Manitoba (0-4-0). Kickoff is scheduled for noon at the U of R Field on both Saturday and Sunday.
