9/30/2011 2:20:00 PM

The University of Regina's women's soccer team continues its homestand this weekend with matches against nationally ranked opponents at the U of R Field, as the Cougars will host No. 5 Trinity Western on Saturday and No. 7 UBC on Sunday.

The Cougars coming off a pair of 2-0 losses to Manitoba, which dropped their Canada West record to 0-5-1 on the season. The team suffered two own goals following unlucky deflections during Saturday's loss and were unable to beat Bisons goalkeeper Chloe Werle despite directing seven shots on net over the two matches.

Regina has already faced both of these teams, as the Cougars lost 1-0 to UBC and 3-0 to Trinity Western back on Sept. 16 and Sept. 17 during a West Coast road swing.

Trinity Western (4-1-0) dropped its opening match of the season to UBC but has reeled off four consecutive wins since then. Second-year midfielder Jenna Di Nunzio enters the weekend tied for the Canada West lead in assists, while fourth-year keeper Kristen Funk has three clean sheets already this season.

UBC (3-1-1) enters the weekend in a four-way knot for third place in the conference standings, but the Thunderbirds are just two points back of second-place Trinity Western. Third-year forwards Janine Frazao and Rachael Sawer lead the Thunderbirds with three goals apiece through the first five games of the year.

Following this weekend, the Cougars will have a weekend off before returning to action with road matches at Fraser Valley and Victoria. Regina's final home matches of the season are slated for Oct. 22 (Lethbridge) and Oct. 23 (Calgary), while the conference schedule wraps up the following weekend against Saskatchewan and Canada West-leading Alberta.
