Hot-shooting Bisons take down Cougars

The University of Regina's men's basketball team gave up 13 consecutive points early in the second quarter and never recovered, losing 116-87 to the Manitoba Bisons on Friday night in Winnipeg to fall to 3-7 on the year.

Two big Manitoba runs proved to be the difference in the contest. In addition to the Bisons' 11-0 run in the second, the home side also scored 12 consecutive points as part of a 24-2 run in the third quarter.

Kevin Oliver was 9-for-14 from the field including 5-for-7 from three-point land for the Bisons, who shot 53.3% as a team in the victory. Stephan Walton added 17 points and seven assists, while Xavier Smith chipped in with 14 points and Jonar Huertas and Tanner Draward had 12 points apiece.

Connor Burns (pictured) had 17 points and 10 rebounds to register his second double-double of the conference season, while Sterling Nostedt was 3-for-5 from three-point range and ended up with 15 points. Playing his first game in a U of R uniform, rookie Vule Grujic had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Manitoba (7-4) and Regina (3-7) will play again on Saturday night with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. The game will be webcast live at www.canadawest.tv.
