Box Score

Kyle Grewal and Sam Freeman both had 23 points to pace the University of Fraser Valley to an 86-73 road win over the Regina Cougars in Canada West men's basketball action on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The No. 10-ranked Cascades jumped out to a double-digit lead early in the second quarter and held onto it for nearly the entire game. Regina cut the lead down to nine points two times in the third quarter, but Fraser Valley was quickly able to restore the advantage in short order on both occasions. Eight consecutive points by the Cascades midway through the fourth sealed the victory for the visitors.

Grewal ended up 8-for-14 from the field, while Freeman hit four of Fraser Valley's 11 three-pointers. Over half of the Cascades' field goal attempts were from three-point range, as they ended up 11-for-33 from downtown. Grewal also added 10 rebounds to end up with the game's lone double-double, while Sheldon Bjorgaard chipped in with 12 points and James York led all players with six steals.

Playing in his first home game in a U of R uniform, Vule Grujic came off the bench to lead the Cougars (3-9) with 16 points. Three other Cougars broke into double figures in scoring, including Paul Gareau (13 points), Connor Burns (12), and Jared Janotta (10). Gareau pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds.

Fraser Valley (8-5) will finish off its two-game road swing on Saturday night against Brandon (5-8), while the Cougars will host Trinity Western (7-6).
