Box Score
For the second time in as many nights, the University of Regina's women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter to come up with a victory as the Cougars scored a 65-52 win over Trinity Western on Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Trinity Western stayed with the No. 1-ranked Cougars through three quarters, but a Janelle Traber triple stood as the Spartans' only points of the first five minutes of the fourth as Regina opened up a double-digit lead with a 13-3 run.
Fourth-year forward
Lindsay Ledingham paced the Cougars (13-0) with a big double-double, scoring a team-high 12 points and leading all players with 12 rebounds.
Danielle Schmidt had nine points and eight rebounds, while
Brittany Read had 11 rebounds and scored eight second-half points.
Holly Strom scored a game-high 16 points for Trinity Western (7-7) and tied Tiffany Olsen for the team lead with nine rebounds.
The two teams were never separated by more than five points in the first half, and that advantage went to the visitors after Trinity Western scored five straight points – four of which were by Strom – to open the second quarter. The Cougars trailed by two at the half and despite an 8-0 run midway through the third, led by just four going into the fourth.
Still a game up on Victoria for third place in the Pacific Division, Trinity Western will be back in action next Saturday against second-place Fraser Valley. The Cougars return to the CKHS next weekend to host Winnipeg in their second of three consecutive home weekends.
