Box Score

Emma Greig scored in the second half for the University of Victoria and that stood as the lone goal of the contest as the Vikes scored a 1-0 victory over the Regina Cougars on Sunday afternoon at the U of R Field.

Greig scored in the 64th minute following a goalmouth scramble, as the second-year forward notched her Canada West-leading 12th goal of the season after taking a pass from Allie Wiebe and beating U of R goalkeeper Stephanie Possberg.

The victory improves No. 5-ranked Victoria's record to 7-1-1 as the Vikes sit in second place in the Canada West standings with 19 points.

Possberg was at times spectacular in net for the Cougars, most notably on a pair of headed efforts by Greig that she made diving stops on to help keep the U of R level with the Vikes. The third-year goalkeeper ended up with six saves in the loss.

Stephanie Parker had a two-save shutout for Victoria, which had a 7-2 advantage over the Cougars in shots on net and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

Still in sixth place in the conference standings with 15 points, the Cougars (5-3-0) host Mount Royal and Alberta next weekend in their final home games of the season before wrapping up the conference schedule with road games on Oct. 20 (Lethbridge) and Oct. 21 (Calgary).

Victoria has a road game against Fraser Valley and home matches against UBC and Trinity Western to finish up the Canada West slate.
