For the second straight afternoon, the University of Regina's men's basketball team led at the halftime but couldn't hold down Manitoba in the second half as the Bisons took a 104-91 win over the Cougars on Sunday in Canada West action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars came out strong in Sunday's game, opening up an 11-point lead after scoring 19 of the game's first 27 points. Manitoba chipped away at the lead and got it down to two points late in the second quarter, but the Cougars scored two consecutive buckets – including one off a nice inbound play to rookie Travis Sylvestre with a half second left on the game clock – to take a six-point lead into the half.

Just as they did on Saturday, Manitoba took it to the Cougars in the third quarter. The Bisons opened up the half on a 15-2 run to take the lead before the U of R put together a 13-2 run of its own to get the lead back, but that would be the last time the Cougars would lead in this one. The teams were close until the four-minute mark of the fourth quarter, when the Bisons piled up 11 straight points and never looked back.

Manitoba, which led by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter, was led by Stephan Walton's 32 points. Walton filled up the stat sheet with eight assists, six steals, and five rebounds in a fine performance by the fourth-year guard.

Jonar Huertas also had a solid game for Manitoba, going 4-for-9 from three-point land and ending up with 20 points. Yigit Ozsayiner added 15 points for Manitoba, while Kevin Oliver scored 12. Braedon Speer had eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Connor Burns was 10-for-13 from the field for the Cougars and had a team-leading 21 points to go along with nine rebounds, while Paul Gareau had 18 points and 11 rebounds to secure a double-double. Antonio Tate matched his career high with 16 points.

The Bisons will head west next weekend for road games against Fraser Valley and Trinity Western, while the Cougars will also fly to British Columbia next weekend for games against Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan. The Cougars are back at home on Nov. 30 (Trinity Western) and Dec. 1 (Fraser Valley) before the month-long break from Canada West action.
