After a scoreless first half on Friday which saw Trinity Western hold a sizable 11-1 edge in shot attempts and an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks, the Spartans got on the board quickly in the second. Boyd, named a Canada West all-star on Thursday, picked up a loose ball in a scramble in the box and scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal in the 48th minute.
Tesan provided some insurance for Trinity Western in the 76th minute, taking a through ball from Krista Gommeringer and scoring on a breakaway to put the hometown Spartans up two.
Meagan Cormier recorded the Cougars' lone shot on goal of the match in the 26th minute, but Funk made the save.
Third-year keeper
Stephanie Possberg made five saves for the U of R in the loss.
